Meet Dr. Amir Bahreman, MD

Dr. Amir Bahreman, MD, holds the distinction of being a quadruple board-certified neurologist. He is an American diplomat in four critical fields, certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (APBN): neurology and psychiatry, brain injury medicine, clinical neurophysiology, and vascular neurology.

Foundational Training in New York

Dr. Bahreman completed his neurology training in 2000 at the esteemed Albert Einstein University in New York. While serving his residency at Montefiore Hospital, he cultivated specialized proficiency in headache disorders, stroke, and neuromuscular diseases. Due to Montefiore's unique location in the Bronx, New York, he gained extensive exposure to a diverse range of neurological conditions, including complex traumatic brain injuries. During this period, he managed patients dealing with traumatic brain injury, spine injury, and various neuromuscular disorders. In his final residency year, he was privileged to work directly under Dr. Richard Lipton and Dr. Lawrence Newman, world-renowned experts in headache treatment, acquiring the necessary knowledge to effectively diagnose and manage post-traumatic headache disorders and migraines related to TBI.

Subspecialty Fellowships in Chicago

Following his residency, Dr. Bahreman advanced his education by entering a fellowship program at the University of Chicago. This rigorous training led to him achieving board certification in Clinical Neurophysiology in 2007 and Vascular Neurology (stroke) in 2008. During his time at the University of Chicago, he became highly skilled in electrodiagnostic testing, including electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), and nerve conduction studies (NCS).

Current Practice and San Diego Commitment

After concluding his fellowship, Dr. Bahreman initially joined a local private neurology group. In 2008, he relocated to San Diego and established his own solo private practice. He is currently affiliated with the Sharp Health System. In his private practice, he provides expert treatment for a wide spectrum of conditions, including traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic headache disorders, migraines, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), neuralgias, seizures, musculoskeletal diseases, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, spinal cord injuries, traumatic spinal disease, and peripheral nerve injuries.

Neurology & Medical-Legal Specialization

Advanced Fellowship Training and Specialized Certifications

Since completing his formal fellowship, Dr. Bahreman has consistently pursued further specialization and secured additional certifications across various high-demand areas. These credentials include expertise in VNG (video nystagmography), posturography, therapeutic use of Botox and spasticity management, and anti-aging medicine. Reflecting this commitment to longevity and wellness, he is an active member of the A4M (American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine). Demonstrating his knowledge in regenerative medicine, he successfully passed the Stem Cell board exam sponsored by the Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine in December 2017.

Focus on Medical Legal Neurology

Presently, Dr. Bahreman's chief professional focus lies in the field of medical legal neurology, with a particular emphasis on cases involving traumatic brain injury (TBI). He serves dual roles as both a treating physician and a highly trusted expert witness in neurology for patients presenting with brain or spinal injuries. His extensive clinical and technical knowledge has been sought and utilized by both plaintiff and defense attorneys across a diverse range of neurological disputes, including those concerning TBI, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), and peripheral nerve injuries. Notably, in 2017, he provided testimony in a class action lawsuit against Bristol Myers regarding their drug Plavix.
